There is nothing quite like the feeling of an international parcel hitting the doorstep, especially when it contains a classic piece of campaign gaming history you’ve been eagerly anticipating! My boxed copy of GDW’s 1982 classic, Soldier King , officially arrived today—safely shipped over from Noble Knight Games. The components are in fantastic condition. Leafing through those vintage 1982 rulebook pages and unrolling the map sheets in person immediately brings back that great, nostalgic operational gaming aesthetic. A quick dispatch to show what is currently occupying the desk.

The final recruitment drive of the month focuses on the "brains and brawn" of the Third Silesian War project. This latest commission focuses on the high command of both powers and the elite formations required to anchor our Black Powder battle lines.

This batch is particularly exciting as it includes the specialised elite units that provide so much character to the 18th-century tabletop.

The Specialised Order of Battle includes:

Prussian & Austrian Generals

  • The High Command: 45 individual Prussian and Austrian Generals to provide the leadership and Staff Ratings for our divisional structures.

Prussian Converged Grenadiers

  • Prussian Converged Grenadiers: The elite strike force of Frederick's army, including Battalions Nr. 1/23, Nr. 2/G-II, Nr. 3/6, and Nr. 4/16.

Imperial Hungarian Infantry

  • Imperial Hungarian Infantry: Adding the colourful and tenacious Royal Hungarian regiments to the Austrian line, specifically IR. 2, IR. 19, IR. 31, and IR. 32.

With these command figures and specialised battalions currently being painted by Mersey Wargames, our 6mm world is rapidly moving from a collection of regiments into a fully functioning military machine. It’s a massive undertaking, but the sight of these elite units on the table will be well worth the effort.
